Lions Seeking Long Distance Win

The Lions (10-1 Overall) are coming off of an intense 14-7win over Black Hills. In the game SR. QB/DB Jordan Hastings had two touchdowns on the ground helping lead the Lions to victory.  Also playing a huge part in the game was Lynden’s ability to stop Black Hills 75% of the time in the redzone. Lynden will look to keep and use this momentum against an explosive Sequim Wolves team that is 10-1 Overall. Sequim is a good team that has a balanced running and throwing game.  Look for Sequim to play with a lot of energy as this is their first time in school history ever reaching the quarterfinals.  The Lions will need to be on top of their game if they want to leave Silverdale Stadium with a W.

Game Capsule: The game on Saturday could be determined on whose defensive can be the dominant team at stopping the run game.  It is supposed to be rainy and cold Saturday evening so look for both teams to put the ball on the ground and let their offensive line do the work.  Sequim is going to try to continue their solid run game that already has 32 rushing touchdowns on the season.   The Lions will also look to continue their running ways, for as of lately they have had to rely on their run game due to weather conditions that have restricted their ability to throw the ball. This will likely be the case in tomorrow’s game.

What’s At Stake:  The game Saturday evening is another win or go home situation.  Both teams enter the evening 10-1 Overall.   For the Lions they will look to move on and potentially play Archbishop Murphy who gave them their only loss this season, or play an undefeated WF West team.  For the Sequim Wolves this is their first time in school history ever to reach the quarterfinals.  They will be playing with a lot of passion and heart as they want to advance to the Tacoma Dome. Beating the Lions and moving to the semifinals would be the biggest accomplishment in the school’s football history.

What to Expect: If the Lions can utilize their consistent running game than look for that to open up their explosive passing game if weather is allowing.  Also look for the Lions defense to be strong as well, as they just came off of a huge game last weak against Black Hills. However, they must contain Sequim’s running game and explosive passing game if they want to win.  The Lions will face a quarterback that is probably the best they have seen this season in Drew Rickerson, and a small but explosive back in Travis Decker who averages 126.6 yards a game and has 25 rushing touchdowns on the season. Overall, the game should be a battle between two very talented balanced offensive units who are seeking to be 1 of 4 teams still in the race for a 2A state championship.
