Look to Keep Rolling
The Lynden Lions (4-1) (3-0) will be on the road for
their second consecutive week when they face Sehome Mariners (0-5) (0-3)
tonight at Civic Stadium. The Lions are definitely favored on paper going
into tonight’s match-up. Sehome has yet to win a game in conference play
and the Lions have remained undefeated. However, Lynden cannot come out
soft, for Sehome will surely give it all they got and a win against the
top team in the conference would certainly make their season. The Lions
will look to avoid this upset and keep their winning streak alive.
Game Capsule: Sehome has been faced with a lot
of adversity this year with some of their top starters out due to injury,
one of them being their top rusher in Justin Santos. Santos was the
leading rusher in the NWC last season and coming into this year he was
expected to be one of the best players in the conference but in the second
game of the season Santos was faced with a season ending foot injury.
After this loss the Mariners haven’t seemed to be able to get much going
on offense scoring a combined 27 points on the season. The Lions, on the
other hand, have scored a combined 169 points on the season.
What’s At Stake: The Lions are looking to
keep their hopes of capturing the top 2A spot into the state playoffs
alive. A win against the Mariners would mean that the Lions would have
another winning season. This would be their 6th consecutive
winning season. If the Lions were to lose this game it could ruin their
chance to place 1st in the NWC and any chance at being the
number one ranked team in the playoffs.
What to Expect: If the Lions can come out
strong and play like they can look for this game to be over quickly. Last
week Sr. WR/DB Brett Bajema rushed for 173 yards on 13 carries with
3 touchdowns. He hopes to continue this pattern against a struggling
Sehome defense that’s averages giving up 44.2 points a game. Look for the
Lions to utilize their run and passing game against a beat up Sehome
defense.
Notes: Sr. QB/DB Jordan Hastings is second
all time in passing, leads in touchdowns, and is 700 yards away from
leading in passing yards. Right now Hastings is averaging 191 yards of
passing per game, and if he is able to remain steady in these next 4
regular season games he should become the #1 passer in Lynden’s history.
Sr. LB/RB Brett Bajema has already moved into the top three in
career tackles and is very close to becoming the #2 all-time tackler. Look
for these players to keep moving up in the all-time stats.
