Lions Seeking To Secure Top League Spot

The Lions will look to go 5-0 in conference as they play at home against the Mt. Baker Mountaineers this Friday for their homecoming. Last week, Lynden played a struggling Sehome Mariners team that didn’t poise much of a threat. The Mountaineers are coming off of a 23-20 OT win against a strong Sedro Woolley team.  Look for Mt. Baker to play with a lot of heart as they will try to upset Lynden and tie for 1st place in the league and get a shot at making the playoffs, which they haven’t done in awhile.

Game Capsule:  The Lynden vs. Mt. Baker game should be an exciting one.  Mt. Baker is looking to upset Lynden on their homecoming game.  Last year Lynden won 26-6 in a game won in the trenches.  Mt. Baker will be playing with a chip on their shoulder as they hope to continue their already successful season.

What’s At Stake: This game has a huge impact on the standings for 2A league play. If Mt. Baker could pull off the upset, then both Lynden and Mt. Baker would be tied for 1st place with each team at 4-1 in league.  This could have huge implications on who would get what seed in the playoffs.  If Lynden wins then they would secure either 1st place or become tied for first depending on how Blaine and Burlington fair out the rest of the season.  Look for Lynden to come out with a bang and show that they are the top team in the league.

What to expect: Look for Lynden to utilize their offensive versatility in this game.  The Lions will use their strong run game, and their always dangerous passing game to put up a lot of points; averaging almost 40 points a game.  A big part of this is Sr. (RB/DB) Brett Bajema who averages a little over 8 yards per carry so far this season. However, Mt. Baker’s David Kashubin averages 106.2 yards per game on the ground this season.  The Lions will try to stop the run game and force Mt. Baker’s QB Zac Lepper to make some mistakes as he has already thrown 8 interceptions on the season.
