Golden Eagles Down Lions
Lynden
Lions 6 (2-2) (2-1) Ferndale Golden Eagles 41 (4-0) (3-0)
The Lynden Lions opened Friday night’s contest
against their fiercest rival in the state as well as they could have
hoped. The Lions scored first, looked tough on defense, and controlled
the tempo of the game. However, in every football game you have to put
together two impressive halves, and after Ferndale scored to go ahead
13-6 with just seconds remaining in the first half they didn’t look
back. Lynden got an accurate gage of where they stand among the best
after competing with one of the best teams in the state for four
quarters.
Game Recap: Friday night’s match-up began
with two inconsistent drives by both the Golden Eagles and Lion’s
offense that resulted in no points. From there, the Lions seemingly
took control of the game early in the second quarter on a perfectly
executed screen pass to from Jr. (QB) Jordan Hastings to Jr. (WR/DE)
Blair Bomber. The ensuing point after attempt was missed and Lynden took
a 6-0 lead they would soon relinquish.
After the Golden Eagles responded with a scoring
drive of their own that included a missed PAT as well, the Lions and
home squad traded blows for the rest of the half. With just seconds
remaining in the half Ferndale signal caller Casey Locker connected on a
spectacular 37 yard touchdown strike to Max Hannah that changed momentum
and gave the Golden Eagles a 13 to 6 halftime lead. After the Lions
failed to score on their opening drive of the second half, things began
to unravel as Ferndale built a 21-6 lead on an option pitch they took in
from inside the Lion’s red zone. The Lion’s were never able to recover
as Ferndale ran away with a 41-6 victory.
The Lions return home this Friday for a conference
game against the Blaine Borderites. Look for your game preview then at
