Trying To Bounce Back

The Lynden Lions (2-2 Overall) (2-1 NWC) are coming off of an emotional 41 to 6 loss to the Ferndale Golden Eagles.  The game was more tightly contested then the score indicated, and the Lions will look to put together two solid halves of football tonight against the Blaine Borderites (3-1 Overall) (2-1 NWC).  Blaine is off to a surprisingly strong start, and they should pose a true threat to the Lions tonight at Rollie DeKoster Field.  They feature a speedy running game that could give the Lions trouble with a defensive line that is slightly banged up.

Game Capsule: The Lions vs. Borderites match-up will be decided by what team will be able to control the line of scrimmage.  Blaine will try implement a dominant running game tonight they hope will carry them to an upset win.  The Lions, in contrast, may try to go to the air more tonight as Jr. QB Jordan Hastings has had four weeks to settle into the offense, and he looked extremely good throwing lasers across the field in the first half of the Ferndale game last week.

What’s At Stake: In recent years, the Lynden game versus Blaine game has not meant much in the standings as Lynden has been able to control the rivalry.  However, this year Blaine actually lies ahead of them in the standings, and this game classifies as a must-win for the Lions.  A win for Blaine would be one of the biggest for them in school history, and Senior running back Casey McCabe will try to impose his will against a Lynden defense that was exposed in the second half last Friday.

What to Expect: If the Lions will be able to utilize their passing game tonight they may run away with this one.  However, they must contain Blaine’s running game to enjoy a pleasant night at Lynden High School.  Also, look for the Lions to truly air it out this week. (WR/DE) Ryan Seto has been dubbed by the Bellingham Herald as a “Player to Watch,” and (WR/DB) Blair Bomber has improved steadily as the season has moved on.  Tonight’s game against the Borderites will be well worth the price of admission.

Notes: Jr. (DT) Jake Christianson will return this week against Blaine after missing the Ferndale game with a concussion.  He has been a mainstay on the defensive line, and his return should help the Lion’s rush defense.

Fun Fact: The Lynden Lions are 34-14-3 all time against the Blaine Borderites.
