Lions Seeking to Press Forward
The Lynden Lions (9-1) (8-0) will travel to Civic
Stadium on Saturday to take on Black Hills of Olympia, Washington for
the first round of state playoffs. Lynden is coming off a 34-14 victory
last week against a good Squalicum Storm team. The game featured a
Lion’s offense that was clicking for most of the game. The Lions are
hoping to build on this offensive performance against a talented Black
Hills squad. Lynden’s defense has also been very efficient letting up
only 20 points in the last 5 games. They will look to remain consistent
as they try and move into the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
Game Capsule: Last week against Squalicum,
the Lions offense was able to find a rhythm fairly early and kept
this rhythm throughout the game. This week the Lions will have to have
another great offensive performance as Black Hills is capable of putting
up a lot of points. They average nearly 36 points a game this season and
feature a very talented core of players on that side of the ball. One of
their most talented players being their Sr. RB Cody Peterson who has
been selected as their League’s player of the year and is rumored to
have looks from a few division one programs. It should also be
mentioned that much of his success has occurred due to an offensive line
that has more then one guy standing taller then 6’3” and weighing more
then 250 lbs. Lynden’s defense will have to step it up against this
talented offense if they want to pull out this victory
What’s At Stake: It’s a do or die
situation in the opening round of state playoffs and both teams are
hoping to continue their already successful seasons. For Black Hills it
has been awhile since they have made a deep run into the playoffs and
they will likely pull out all the stops to try and get one step closer
to reaching the dome. The Lions, on the other hand, have been
accustomed to playoff success in the last few years and are hoping to
further this success by gaining a spot into the quarterfinals. This
game will likely display high energy as both teams will have a state
championship on their mind.
What to expect: Both teams feature
explosive offenses that have been able to put up a lot of points so
expect a high scoring affair in tomorrow night’s contest. Also, with
each team featuring some of the best playmakers in the 2A
classification, this game could right down to the wire. Whichever
defense can remain solid for all four quarters, and limit the other team
from busting out big plays, will likely be the team that walks away with
the win. It should make out to be a great battle between two up-tempo
offenses and two solid defenses that will be well worth the price of
admission. |
