 Lions Look To Keep Rolling

The Lynden Lions (4-2 Overall) (4-1 NWC) will try to extend their winning streak today on the muddy grounds of Mt. Baker High School.  The Mountaineers are (2-4 Overall) (2-4 NWC) and struggling to find their identity in their tough Northwest Conference Schedule.  They feature a talented quarterback back that will have to face off with one of the strongest defenses in the league.  Lynden will look to keep their offense rolling in their pursuit of the number one seed heading into the play-in game.

Game Capsule: Traveling to Mt. Baker High School for the second consecutive year, Lynden will be playing on a sloppy field that will threaten to slow their spread offense down.  The Lions will have to develop a strong ground game early and continue to air it out like last week against Sehome to be successful.  For Mt. Baker to pull off an unlikely upset, they will have to create some game-changing turnovers that result in getting on the scoreboard.

What’s At Stake: For the Lions, it’s all about staying focused and being in position to gain the top 2a seed in the conference.  They will have to avoid looking forward to October 30th’s game against Burlington-Edison, and take care of a formidable opponent on the road.  The Lions will be favored to win, and they are looking to prove they are the better team heading into tonight’s contest.

What to Expect: While the Lions may be slowed a little by the wet playing conditions, they should still be able to throw the ball.  In freezing temperatures last year, quarterback Tate Dallas had the most passing yards of his career and wide receiver Ryan Gaylord had over 200 yards receiving.  Jr. (QB) Jordan Hastings is coming off his best game of the year in last week’s drubbing of Sehome, and he should attack a vulnerable Sehome secondary for four quarters tonight.  For Baker, Sr. quarterback Brian Marshall has put up some big offensive statistics thus far, and he will look to increase his ten touchdown passes tonight against the Lions.

Notes: Sr. (LB) Taylor Creighton is just nine tackles away from moving to the number one spot for tackles in Lynden football history.  Creighton has been starting for three years at linebacker for the Lions, and he could easily break the record tonight if he keeps up his numbers.

Fun Fact: The Lynden Lions are 31-20-3 all time against the Mt. Baker Mountain
