Lions Start 2009 with a Bang
This
year the 2009 Lions football team will start their first non conference
game of the season at Qwest Field against the Archbishop Murphy
Wildcats. Archbishop is starting their season after a loss to the Lions
in the state semi-final game last year. They lost 21-13 by a game that
came down to 4th quarter play for both teams. In the 1st
quarter the Lions shocked ATM with an 80 yard touchdown catch and run by
Sr. (WR/DB) Blair Bomber. The Lions fortunately held this lead
the whole game and in the 4th quarter Lynden’s defense was
able to prevent the last minute hopes of ATM. This year however ATM
will look for vengeance and a chance to prove themselves against a
seasoned Lynden team.
Game Outlook: The Lynden vs. Archbishop
Murphy game has been looked upon as one of the top games in the state
with two power houses both ranked in the top three in the 2A
classification. Each team is returning at least four starters on each
side of the ball. ATM is returning four offensive starters and five
defensive starters with three out of the five being d-lineman. Look for
ATM to try and use this talent to put pressure on Sr. QB Jordan
Hastings early in the game. Lynden returns seven starters on each
side of the ball. Some key returners are Sr. QB Jordan Hastings,
Sr. (WR/DB) Blair Bomber, and Sr. (WR/DE) Ryan Seto.
Lynden will use these three offensive weapons to try to exploit ATM’s
younger defense.
ATM is looking for their returning senior
quarterback to lead this peculiar offense to victory over Lynden’s
stingy defense. ATM runs a wing-t offense which is unlike most offenses
high schools are used to seeing. ATM will try to use this to their
advantage to overcome the Lions. Archbishop Murphy’s second year coach
Dave Ward will try again to lead his team deep into the post-season
after his great success last year. Where as Lynden will try to use
their experience and skill to lead them to victory over a fairly young
but extremely talented Archbishop Murphy squad.
Both Lynden and ATM hope to start off their season
with a win at Qwest Field. This is a game that could go down to whoever
has the ball last. Lynden and ATM are both known for their ability to
produce in the 2A classification. And both teams are trying to live up
to the hype and prove they are the best 2A team in the state. Lynden
has a lot of returning starters, but they also have some young kids
trying to fill in big holes left by last year’s team. The Lions look
forward to getting the chance to capitalize on this once in a lifetime
opportunity playing at Qwest and the chance to start the season off with
a bang.
