Lynden Pitches Shut Out
Lynden Lions 47 (6-2) (6-1) Anacortes Seahawks 0 (0-8) (0-8)
The Lynden Lions scored early and often last Friday
night on their way to shutting out the winless Anacortes Seahawks 47-0.
The Lions jumped on the back of Jr. (QB) Jordan Hastings and lit
up the scoreboard against an overmatched Seahawks squad. Jr. (WR/DB)
Blair Bomber had another huge night offensively and defensively
while helping the Lions put up 27 second quarter points. With the
victory the Lions put themselves in position to gain the conference’s
top seed heading into Friday night’s Halloween showdown with the
undefeated Burlington Edison Tigers.
Game Recap: The Bellingham Herald
characterized Lynden as sputtering through the first quarter of action
last Friday night. This classic example of hyperbole is supported by
the fact that the Lion defense kept Anacortes from scoring inside their
red zone, then marched down the field and scored a touchdown on their
first drive on a 25 yard pass from Hastings to Bomber.
Leading 6-0 heading into the second quarter, the
Lions spread offense exploded for 27 points in the second quarter on
runs of 4 and 14 yards by Hastings and Jr. (S/RB) Brett Bajema,
and touchdown catches of 3 and 24 yards by Bomber. Leading 34-0
going into the half, Head Coach Curt Kramme put on the brakes in the
second half as Lynden scored just two offensive touchdowns when the
opportunity to run up the score was dangling in front of their faces.
However, the Lions defense rightfully never let up on their way to their
first shut out of the season.
The Lynden offense racked up a season-best 527
yards while the defense allowed just 176 yards from the spread formation
employed by the Anacortes Seahawks. The game was filled with impressive
individual performances offensively and defensively in addition. Jr.
QB Jordan Hastings has seemingly hit his stride late in the season
as he threw for 242 yards, rushed for 95 yards, and recorded four
touchdowns on the ground and through the air. Blair Bomber
once again proved to be one of the elite receivers in the conference on
his way to 191 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Stay tuned for Thursday’s in-depth breakdown of the
Lynden vs. Burlington match-up that is being heralded as the best
conference game of the season.
