Lions Seek Their Last Regular
Season Home Win
The Lynden Lions (6-1) (5-0) will remain at home
tonight as they seek to keep their 6-game winning streak alive when they
take on the Anacortes Seahawks (1-6) (1-4). Lynden’s defense has hit its
stride in the past few weeks, and hopes to keep rolling by getting a
third consecutive shutout. Anacortes has struggled this season, but they
have proven they have some offensive weapons that can breakout at any
point. The Lions will look to keep these threats in check and take home
their seventh win of season.
Game Capsule: The Seahawks are the
definite underdogs due to their record and the current play of the
Lions. For Anacortes to steal this victory away from the Lions they will
need to force a lot of turnovers on defense and break out some huge
plays on offense. And if Lynden comes out soft these mistakes may become
apparent and make for a good game. However, it could possibly be the
last game the Lynden Seniors will ever play on Rollie DeKoster Field so
this extra motivation will hopefully give the Lions all they need to
come out with fire and walk away with their last home win of the regular
season.
What’s At Stake: The Anacortes Seahawks
have mathematically been eliminated from the playoffs with only two
games left in the regular season. However, if they were able to pull out
a huge upset win against the Lions it would surely make their season and
give them a huge momentum booster going into next year. The Lions, on
the other hand, have already clinched a spot in the district play-in
game but are trying to win their last two regular season games so they
can attain the top 2A seed in the conference. They also are hoping to
grasp the NWC championship and this will likely only happen if they are
able to win their final two games. With this in mind, the Lions
shouldn’t have any lack of motivation heading into tonight’s match-up.
What to expect: Tonight’s forecast looks
like it could consist of some very wet and muddy conditions. With this
weather the Lions may look to utilize their running game a bit more in
tonight’s contest. However, this shouldn’t have any effect on the Lions
offensive production as the run game has proven very effective this year
with Sr. RB/LB Brett Bajema averaging a whopping 8 yards per
carry. Lynden will likely try not to stray to far off their usual game
plan and will still try to exploit their talented receiving core. The
Anacortes Seahawks will probably also look to go to the ground and give
it to their talented RB Chris Stoneham, who has provided
Anacortes with most of its offensive consistency this year.
Notes: The Lynden Lions have a chance to go
undefeated at home for the season and become one step closer to remain
undefeated in Northwest Conference play. |
