Trying To Be Road Warriors
The Lynden Lions (5-2 Overall) (5-1 NWC) will
travel to Anacortes High School tonight to extend their winning streak
to four games against the winless Anacortes Seahawks (0-7 Overall) (0-7
NWC). Lynden’s offense has hit its stride in the past three weeks, and
they will want to keep it rolling heading into next week’s touted
match-up against the Burlington-Edison Tigers. Anacortes has struggled
this season, but have proven to be competitive with their strong
offensive linemen and productive running back.
Game Capsule: The Seahawks are heavy
underdogs due to their record and the solid play of the Lion’s
offensively and defensively. To steal a victory at home, the Seahawks
will need to force at least 3 turnovers and make some huge plays
offensively. It is never easy for Lynden to play at Anacortes due to
the hour and a half drive and the unique playing conditions of their
field. (One of their endzones is elevated from the rest of the playing
field)
What’s At Stake: For the Seahawks, their
playoff hopes have been mathematically eliminated with two games left to
go in the regular season. This is the biggest game of the year for them
and a win over the Lions would give them a surge of momentum heading
into next year. The Lions, in comparison, have clinched a spot in the
district play-in game and are vying to win their final two regular
season games to get the top 2a seed in the conference. Lynden shouldn’t
have any lack of motivation heading into tonight’s contest.
What to Expect: With a mixed forecast for
tonight’s game on the horizon, the Lions won’t differ from their
offensive game plan of mixing the pass and the run. Quarterback
Jordan Hastings’ confidence has built with every game this year, and
he should have no trouble spreading the ball around the field to
playmakers such as Jr. (CB/DB) Blair Bomber and Jr. (WR/DE)
Ryan Seto. The Anacortes Seahawks will look to utilize Jr. RB
Chris Stoneham, who has provided Anacortes with the only consistency
offensively this season.
Notes: Sr. (LB) Taylor Creighton is
now only seven tackles away from becoming the all-time leader in tackles
for the Lynden football program. Creighton was only able to
record two tackles last week as Mt. Baker constantly threw the ball deep
downfield. It’s no longer a matter if Creighton will break the record,
but when he will do it. |
